Just thoughts

So, why are MOST (not all) public schools so bad? And why do you have to pay the price of a car per school year for your children to have a great education? I hear that Marietta and Gwinnett have decent schools but I can't move to the boonies (move far out)! I think it's ridiculous. I just hope that maybe one day public schools will get it together so I can send my children to a neighborhood school versus a private or homeschool!!!! Anyways, those were my thoughts after eating turkey. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

UPDATE: Fall 2010

I got my first call about my homeschool-school for Fall 2010! A lady is interested in letting her two children join Adelina! I'm so excited! I hoping to get more feedback as the year passes. This would be a good opportunity for Adelina. Also, my friend told me about the homeschool organization for the state of GA. I will check out their webpage and see what's up with them!

Westminster or Atlanta Classical Christian or Homeschool

If I can get Adelina into a good private school then I have no problem with sending her to school. I'm not against schools at all, just poor education systems! So, we are trying to get Adelina in at Westminster on a scholarship but when someone told me her chances are slim, scholarship or no scholarship, I started looking elsewhere. I found Atlanta Classical Christian School. Their tuition is somewhat affordable, $5800 a school year. Before you freak out Westminter is ~$18,000 a school year. Also, I've considered joint enrolling her in any school even a public one just to do extra curricular activities like foreign language, sports, band, orchestra, home ec, etc.

Fall 2010

I have considered starting my own homeschool-school (if that makes any sense). I want to take on atleast 4 more kids in addition to my daughter. I would really enjoy doing this sense I am a nanny and love kids. I would also be able to provide my daughter with friends to learn with. I would build a playground in my backyard and make the basement into a classrooom. The children would have PE, lunch, and nap time incoporated into their day. I would even offer pick up/drop off services if possible. This excites me just blogging about it!

Social Life

One concern that I definately have is my daughter's social life. Before I took her out of GSU daycare pre-k she had been there for 3 years almost. She does tell me that she wants to play with kids. Before I continue, my mom homeschools my daughter. She does enjoy it. When I brought up the idea of mommy teaching her she became excited. I think she would like more my mom and I to alternate to give her some sort of variety. That is something I might consider in the Fall. Anyways, I have been searching desperately on the Internet for playgroyps. Today, she played with her first playgroup and she very much enjoyed it! Also, I'm a nanny so she comes with me when she can to play with the kids. She really enjoys that. One little girl that I pick up twice a week she already considers her her best friend. If there are any play/homeschool groups out there please let me know!

Why I Pulled her out

My daughter, age 5, started homeschooling this year. I pulled her out of the pre-k at GSU because I wasn't too impressed by it. I loved it when she was younger for a daycare setting buy not for learning. Now that my daughter is homeschooled within the last four months she has learned a lot of her abc's, their sounds, and how to write them in cursive!!!! She just doesn't scribble anymore with art projects. She can cut better than most high schoolers, heck even better than some adults! I am very satisfied with my daughter's outcome in such a short time! (note: my daughter has a late b-day so she just turned 5. She won't start K-5 until fall 2010)
